Hello! My name is Staci, and I love drawing.
October is one of my favorites months of the year, and I love Halloween. In honor of my favorite holiday, I’ve decided for all of October I will be posting Halloween themed illustrations. The first drawing for October is two of my own witch characters.
Typically when I draw, I push the angles or curves of my art to stylize it. I think putting a sharp curve next to a very angular line pushes each line to look more angular or more curvy: the contrasts play off of one another.
With character design, I think it’s important to try new things instead of getting into a formulaic pattern. Sometimes I feel like a lot of witch characters look similar in their design, so I tried to be a little more unique with their body type, color scheme, and clothing they’re wearing. Practicing different body types is important too: it adds interest to your art and shows different personalities with each character if you vary them.
I use Prismacolor pencils to complete my drawings. They allow you to blend multiple layers, by building up layer after layer in my drawings, I get a result of very rich colors that are more interesting to look at.
Thank you for reading. I hope my posts this month get you in the Halloween spirit!
