Animal Series: Owl

By: Staci Srebro

Over the next few weeks, I will continue my animal series. This week, I drew an owl with three eyes and two sets of wings. To start, I drew this image with pencil.

Step 1

After working the image in pencil to my liking, I inked it in black marker, keeping the lines bold and graphic.

Step 2

My animal series drawings will be used eventually for linoleum blocks to make multiple prints with them. Linoleum is a soft carve-able material, and with the printmaking process, a person can add plenty of different textures or line weights on their linoleum block if they choose to do so.

Here is a picture of the block once it was completed:

Step 3

Drawing is so important, I think, because it is the foundation for a lot of artwork. You can sketch drawings out for sculpture ideas for example, and here I need to draw for the printmaking process.
